The brighteststar in Corvus despite its 'Gamma' designation, Gienah is a rapidly rotating star whose spectrum shows unusual levels of mercury and manganese. This star is often known as 'Gienah Corvi' or 'Gienah Ghurab' to distinguish it from another star sometimes named Gienah in the constellation of Cygnus.
