TZ Arietis is among the closest stars to the Solar System, at a distance of less than fifteen light years, but it is an exceptionally faint red dwarf, approximately five thousand times less luminous than the Sun. It lies on a very close line of sight with the distant galaxy PGC 1421815, seen here as a faint elongated shape directly to the east (left) of the star. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas

* This star was originally reported to possess two planets, one at 0.4 AU from its star and another at 0.88 AU. Subsequent investigations confirmed the existence of the outer planet, but demonstrated that the proposed inner planet derived from an artefact in the data. The outer planet - the small gas giant listed above - was originally desigated 'TZ Arietis c', and while this was modified to 'TZ Arietis b' with the loss of the inner planet, it is still described as 'TZ Arietis c' in some sources.
