Theta Leporis lies some 167 light years from the Solar System, and is a main sequence or 'dwarf' star, though it has more than twice the diameter of the Sun. By comparison it is also considerably hotter: its surface temperature of about 9,400 K is nearly twice that of the Sun (and so it shines white, rather than the Sun'syellow colour). It is also much more luminous than the Sun, generating more than thirty times as much light energy.
