The slight 'doubling' effect on this image of 61 Virginis is due to its proper motion across the sky. At a distance of some 28 light years, this Sun-like star is relatively close to the Solar System on a Galactic scale, and its high relative motion against its background stars, as seen from Earth, is detectable over time.
