Although not a particularly large group of stars in terms
of area, the Serpent's Tail lies in a position
in the sky that commands a significant portion of the Milky Waygalaxy.
Serpens Cauda is a not a constellation in its
own right - it represents the smaller part of the group of stars known collectively as
Serpens, the Serpent,
which is divided in two by Ophiuchus, the Serpent Holder.
