NotesZeta Ophiuchi is a hot O-type main sequence star, estimated to be some eight times the diameter of the Sun. It lies within a tenuous cloud of gas and dust, which absorbs much of the light emitted by Zeta Ophiuchi and is faintly illuminated by the star's light.

A dwarf star more than 360 light years from Earth. It is notable as belonging to the O-type classification, meaning that it is hot even by stellar standards. Its surface temperature is more than 25,000 Kelvin, making it about five times hotter than the Sun.
