This nova remnant is not to be confused with Nova Sagittarii 1898, also designated V1059 Sagittarii or HD 176654, a nova detected the year before V1016 Sagittarii that lies farther to the north within Sagittarius.
V1016 Sagittarii was a relatively prominent star when it erupted in 1899, but has now faded to the point where it is barely distinguishable against the background stars of the Milky Way. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas
