The bright star in the southwest (lower right) of this image is Alioth or Epsilon Ursae Majoris, the brightest star in the constellation of Ursa Major. This a close neighbour of 78 Ursae Majoris in space, but is an intensely luminous white star emitting some twenty times more light, and so appears much brighter in the sky. Though comparatively much less luminous than Alioth, 78 Ursae Majoris itself is some five times more luminous than the Sun. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas

A faint star that lies along the backbone of the Plough or Big Dipper, close to the much brighter Alioth. It is of the pale yellow 'F' classification, and a dwarf star like the Sun, but forms a binary system with an orbiting companion star.
