Notes	Tania Australis is an old red giant star approaching the end of its helium-burning cycle, and evolving into an orange carbon-burning star. It is a spectroscopic binary, with a companion star that can be detected only by its effects on the primary star's spectrum.

Tania Australis in Ursa Major. The blue-white star to the north is Tania Borealis or Lambda Ursae Majoris, actually a rather less luminous star much closer to the Sun than Tania Australis.
