NotesSterope lies among the northern stars of the Pleiades, forming a close optical double with the slightly brighter star Asterope to its immediate northwest. The two stars are occasionally given the names 'Sterope I' and 'Sterope II', referring to Asterope (21 Tauri) and Sterope (22 Tauri) respectively.

Sterope forms a close apparent pair with Asterope (or 21 Tauri) to its northwest. Both stars lie within the Pleiades cluster, but they do not form a binary pair, and actually lie several light years apart within the greater cluster that surrounds them. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas
