NotesThis is a highly luminous blue dwarf star, though its distance from Earth, and a drift of intervening galactic dust, lessen its apparent brightness somewhat. It is one of more than four hundred stars belonging to the widespread Scorpius-Centaurus Association running through this part of the sky.

Omega1 Scorpii is the blue star centred in this image, and its yellow-white companion to the southeast is Omega2 Scorpii. While the two stars are just a quarter of a degree apart as seen from Earth, they are widely separated in space, with blue Omega1 falling almost twice as far from the Sun than the closer but less luminous yellow Omega2.
