Gamma Aquarii is a spectroscopic binary system, and the traditional name Sadachbia is now formally applied only to the primarystar of the system, designated Gamma Aquarii Aa. This star also forms an optical double with another star some thirty arcseconds away in the sky, sometimes designated Gamma Aquarii B, though in fact much more distant from the Sun than Sadachbia.
