NotesA faint red dwarf emitting only a fraction as much light as the Sun, V2306 Ophiuchi is a BY Draconis variable, whose magnitude changes as it rotates on its axis due to variations on the surface of the star itself. The star has three known planets, all three of which orbit at distances well within Earth's orbital distance from the Sun. Based on their mass, these appear to be rocky bodies, each more massive than Earth.

As a nearby star, V2306 Ophiuchi moves across the sky relatively quickly in comparison with the much more distant stars that form its background. The blue and orange markers on this image represent positions of the star at different times, as it moves southward through the constellation of Ophiuchus. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas
