NotesMegrez is the faintest of the seven stars that make up the famous Plough or Big Dipper formation. In common with many of the other stars that make up that asterism, Megrez belongs to a group of stars known as the Ursa Major Moving Group, stars that are thought to share a common origin.

Half a degree directly to the west of Megrez (to the extreme right of this image) is an apparently fainter orange star, 68 Ursae Majoris. This sixth-magnitude star is actually a much more luminous object, shining from a distance some ten times greater than the foreground star Megrez. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas
