KQ Puppis lies in the northern parts of the constellation of Puppis, a region of the sky rich with open clusters. One of the most prominent of these clusters, M47, is seen here to the east (left) of red KQ Puppis. Earlier parallax calculations suggested that the star may have been an outlying member of the cluster, but more precise recent data suggest that KQ Puppis actually lies far beyond M47.
