The multiple star Rho Geminorum lies on a close line of sight with the much brighter star Castor or Alpha Geminorum (seen here to the east or left). Castor is only slightly nearer to the Sun than Rho Geminorum, but it is much more intrinsically luminous, and so appears significantly brighter despite being a relatively near neighbour to Rho Geminorum in space.
