The second brighteststar in Eridanus, Cursa marks the northern end of the stream of stars that runs southward from the feet of Orion down to Achernar deep in the sky's southern hemisphere. Cursa is a variable star that has been known to produce brief but brilliantly intense bursts of brightness at rare intervals.
