The visible star designated Xi2Canis Majoris shows oscillations in its motion that demonstrate that it belongs to a binary system, but a system in which the other component body cannot be detected. In an astrometricbinary system like this, the other member is either too faint to be identified, or is a dark object such as a neutron star.
