To the northeast of Beta Fornacis in the sky, visible here at the outer edge of the halo surrounding the star in this image, is the elongated shape of a lenticular galaxy. The second brightest of the stars in Fornax is a yellow giant, some 177 light years (about 54 parsecs) from Earth's Solar System.
