Though exceptionally faint as seen from Earth, distant BD +50 886 is a hot and energetic star some three hundred times more luminous than the Sun. Its light illuminates its surrounding gases to create a emission nebula, NGC 1491 or Sh2-206, while the star's stellar wind repels the gases to create a circular bubble shape around BD +50 886 itself.
