Blue main sequence star in Andromeda
Show on Sky Map
Nu Andromedae is relatively faint in its own right, but it is important as being the nearest star to the Andromeda Galaxy that is visible to the naked eye. With Mu Andromedae, it forms the end of a line leading from the much brighter Mirach pointing toward the galaxy. The spectral structure of Nu Andromedae's light marks it as a blue main sequence star, and also suggests that it might be part of a binary system, with a pale yellow companion star.
Blue Nu Andromedae lies directly to eastward from the Andromeda Galaxy, part of which is visible in this image, on the right-hand side of the frame. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas
