Bright Yellow Star in Octans
Show on Sky Map
A constellation's alpha star is, in most cases, its brightest and most prominent. Alpha Octantis, though, is a significant exception to this rule: at magnitude +5.1, it is very faint indeed; at least three other of Octans' stars are brighter.
