The pale star to the northwest of 71 Ophiuchi is HD 165670, which is actually a foreground star much closer to the Sun than the yellow giant. Though much farther way, 71 Ophiuchi is also nearly forty times as luminous as HD 165670, and so appears brighter despite its greater distance. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas

A giant yellow star in the northern reaches of Ophiuchus, the Serpent Holder. It lies nearly 260 light years from Earth, and with an apparent magnitude of just +4.63, is barely visible to the naked eye.
