66 Orionis is a faint star in the eastern parts of Orion, lying on the southern edge of the Milky Way near Orion's border with Monoceros the Unicorn. It lies almost directly to the southeast of the prominent red star Betelgeuse, which is about four degrees away in the sky.
Physically 66 Orionis is a yellow giant star, but doppler shifts in its spectrum show that this is a binary, and the primary yellow star possesses an orbiting companion. 66 Orionis is immensely distant from Earth at approximately 1,500 light years, placing it among the most distant stars visible to the naked eye (though with a visual magnitude of just +5.63, conditions need to be ideal for this star to visible without telescopic aid).
