A faint star on the fringes of the Milky Way in Orion, on the verge on naked eye visibility. 63 Orionis is in the eastern part of its constellation, outside the shape of prominent stars that make up the Hunter's familiar form and towards Orion's border with neighbouring Monoceros. Its nearest bright star in the sky is Betelgeuse, a little over three degrees to the northwest.
63 Orionis is a giant and luminous yellow star, but immensely far from Earth; at nearly nine hundred light years' distance, it is much further away than the prominent stars that make up the form of Orion (for example, it is nearly twice as far away as Betelgeuse, though the two stars appear close to one another in the sky).
