A fifth magnitude star in Orion, lying almost directly southwards of red Betelgeuse and eastward of Orion's Belt, in the foreground of the vast nebulous structure known as Barnard's Loop that runs through the eastern part of the constellation.
60 Orionis is a white main sequence star, and therefore rather hotter than the Sun (in fact, it generates about 150 times as much energy and is about three times as massive). The primary star has a binary companion, about which little is known except that it orbits at a distance of more than 2,500 AU from the main white star. 60 Orionis is a variable star, showing minor variations in brightness over irregular periods.
