OGLE-2016-BLG-1093L b was detected by the gravitational lensing method, which is effective at locating planets around extremely distant stars. In this case the parent starOGLE-2016-BLG-1093 is estimated to be more than 26,000 light years from the Sun, forming part of the Milky Way's central bulge. This image shows the coordinates of that star, but the object itself cannot be visually distinguished from the busy background in this dense part of the Milky Way. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas
