KR Muscae (the star designated HD 100546) is a complex system, in which the young star is surrounded by two thick, concentric rings of dusty material. Within and around those circumstellar discs, apparent indications of several massiveplanets have been detected, but the configuration of the system makes them difficult to distinguish from anomalies within the discs themselves.
The status of HD 100546 c (and other potential planets in the system) has yet to be confirmed, but the available data seems to point to it being a ringedplanet, much more massive than Jupiter, that is likely responsible for the gap between the star's inner and outer discs.
