‘E’ Nebula

Seen in this enhanced view, the reason that this formation is known as the 'E' Nebula is immediately apparent. The 'E' is composed of two dark nebulae, with the upper branches of the 'E' shape being Barnard 143, and the slightly fainter and more detached southern element being Barnard 142. The entire structure lies westward of the third-magnitude star Tarazed or Gamma Aquilae, which appears as a bright point in the extreme left of this image. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas
