The resemblance of this nebula to a horse's head is rather clearer when it is viewed inverted (as it would be seen through an optical telescope), though even aligned to the north, as here, the approximate shape of a horsehead in profile can be distinguished. The blue 'eye' of the horse is the fourh-magnitudestarJabbah or Nu Scorpii, while the brighterstar to the west (right) is the multiple starAcrab (also called Graffias or Beta Scorpii).
