One of the largest of a series of distant galaxies in the southern parts of Delphinus, NGC 6930 is distinctive in that it partially obscures a smaller galaxy beyond, creating an elongated 'T' shape as seen from Earth. In the year 2003, a supernova was observed in the central regions of this galaxy.
NGC 6930 falls within a field of faint and distant galaxies lying off the 'tail' of Delphinus the Dolphin. The northern edge of the galaxy partially obscures the more distant UGC 11590, another barred spiral about a third of the diameter of NGC 6930. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas
