The slightly fainter star to the southwest of o Orionis is another hot blue star designated HR 1764. It is difficult to calculate distances precisely for such distant objects (both these stars are about a thousand light years from the Sun), but these two stars seem to lie just a few tens of light years apart from one another. Both stars, along with about fifty others, form a stellar association known as Orion X. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas
