NotesThough designated 'Alpha', this star belongs to a faint constellation, and is itself only fourth magnitude. Paradys is an evolved orange giant star that has begun to burn helium in its core, and has expanded to a diameter more than fifty times that of the Sun.

Orange Paradys (Alpha Apodis) marks the tail of Apus, the Bird of Paradise. This is a far southern star, just 11° from the Southern Celestial Pole.

The brightest of the stars of the far southern constellation Apus. It is an orange giant, but its distance from Earth of nearly five hundred light years makes it appear faint in the sky.
