NotesVolans, the Flying Fish, is a sparse and faint constellation lying to eastward of the Large Magellanic Cloud. It contains few bright stars, and even its brightest, Gamma2 Volantis, does not exceed fourth magnitude. Volans contains a scattering of galaxies in its central regions, of which the most prominent is the spiral NGC 2442.
