Asterism in Ursa Major
Show on Sky Map
The brighter of the two main stars shown here is second-magnitude Mizar or Zeta Ursae Majoris, the Horse of this asterism. Its Rider is fourth-magnitude Alcor or g Ursae Majoris. The two stars are separated by less than twelve arcminutes on the celestial sphere, and indeed are physically close to one another in space, probably lying less than a light year apart.
