The point in the Earth's orbit where the North Pole is inclined directly towards the Sun. From Earth, this is the point where the Sun is at its closest to the Northern Celestial Pole, meaning that it remains above the horizon longer than on any other day. South of the equator, these effects are reversed, and while the northern hemisphere enjoys its longest day, the southern hemisphere sees its shortest.
