NotesThe point in the sky 90° southward from the Ecliptic (that is, the point directly southward of the plane of the Solar System) falls close to the Large Magellanic Cloud in the constellation of Dorado.

The Southern Ecliptic Pole lies within the southern regions of the constellation Dorado, on the fringes of the Large Magellanic Cloud. This marks the point in the southern hemisphere that is perpendicular to the band of the Ecliptic around the sky.
