One of a multitude of large, populous star clusters, normally spherical in shape, that exist in a 'halo' around the Milky Way galaxy.
Omega Centauri (Caldwell 80 or NGC 5139) is the brightest globular cluster in the sky, and among the largest and most massive such clusters associated with the Milky Way Galaxy. At magnitude +3.68, it is clearly visible to the naked eye among the stars of central Centaurus. Imagery provided by Aladin sky atlas
