A short-period comet that orbits the inner Solar System. Its eccentricorbit rarely takes it beyond the orbit of Jupiter, and it is classified as a Jupiter-family Comet. It was discovered independently by Tempel and Swift, but then lost for more than a century before being rediscovered by the LINEAR near-Earth object detection programme.
