Stellar association in Scorpius
Show on Sky Map
The Upper Scorpius Association is a grouping of several hundred stars clustered around Antares (the bright red-orange star near the centre of this image), and so sometimes known as the Antares Cluster. It forms part of the more extensive Scorpius-Centaurus Association, the nearest OB association (association of O-type and B-type stars) to the Sun at an estimated distance of more than four hundred light years.
