Though listed as a loose open cluster in the New General Catalogue, this cluster is relatively undefined, and detailed descriptive information is lacking. Some sources, indeed, do not list NGC 2260 as a star cluster at all, but instead categorise as it as non-existent (that is, representing an arbitrary grouping of unrelated stars).
* Magnitude data for this cluster as a whole is not recorded. The brighteststar in this part of the sky is the orangegiantHD 47362 with an apparent magnitude of +7.07, but parallax data suggests that this star is considerably closer to the Sun than the estimated distance of NGC 2260. It therefore almost certainly lies in the foreground, rather than representing a member the cluster beyond.
