The eastern part of this image, including the fifth-magnitude supergiant y Carinae near its eastern edge, belongs to the extensive open cluster Collinder 240. Within that cluster are various more concentrated groups of stars that are idenitifed as smaller clusters in their own right, and one of these is Collinder 239, in the northwestern parts of the wider cluster Collinder 240.
